DRUMMONDVILLE HOSTS CANADIAN BMX CHAMPIONSHIPS, CANADA CUP RACE THIS WEEKEND
BMXers back in Drummondville for biggest BMX event on the domestic calendar
(Drummondville, QC – June 29, 2015) The 2015 Canadian BMX Championships and fifth leg of the BMX Canada Cup will take place this weekend at the UCI-sanctioned track in Drummondville.
The event start on Friday with the Time Trial, followed by the Canadian BMX Championships on Saturday. Sunday, the group will race the Canada Cup BMX race to close the weekend. Racing will feature elite and junior categories along with a wide array of classes for all ages.
Canada’s Tory Nyhaug will back to race after coming back from an injury, and he will come to the event to defend his title from 2014, and earn his fifth consecutive Elite BMX title and fifth consecutive Elite Time Trial title. Since turning junior, Nyhaug has yet to lose a Canadian title. Nyhaug is currently leading the Canada Cup BMX standings after winning the two races this past weekend in Abbotsford.
Nyhaug will race at the Canadian Championships wearing plate #2, designating his as the silver medallist from the 2014 UCI BMX Supercross World Championships.
Amelia Walsh will be looking to earn her third straight title. Walsh earned her first elite title in St-Albert in 2013, and successfully defended in 2014 in Drummondville.
All members of the National Team except Drew Mechielsen (injured), including all four members who will compete on July 11 at the Toronto 2015 Pan-American Games, will be on hand to race the event. Those Pan-Am Games members are Nyhaug, Jimmy Brown, Amelia Walsh and Daina Tuchscherer.
Tuchscherer is leading the Canada Cup BMX junior women category, undefeated this year. At her first UCI World Championships participation, last season, she finished sixth in the time trial and eighth in the supercross race.
Alex Tougas will race his first race in the junior category. The young BMXer won back-to-back Challenge Boys World Championships titles and is competing in the junior category for the first Canadian Championships. Tougas is undefeated in the Canada Cup BMX series this season.
The event takes place at the BMX Drummond track, which was recently built and launched just a year ago prior to the 2014 edition of these Canadian Championships.
